791-103 Agricultural Production Systems I

Objectives:

The objective of this subject is to enable students to understand:

  • the system nature of agricultural food and fibre production; the inputs and outputs of agricultural production systems;

  • the scientific and technological basis of agricultural production systems and the use of technology to improve efficiency and effectiveness.

Content:

Introduction to the techniques for studying systems; introduction to, and the study of, the components and technology of agricultural production systems; introduction to basic farm operational skills as they apply to the dairy, pig, broad acre and production horticulture industries.

Assessment:

Two 1500 word assignments (20% each); two hour examination (60%).
