791-057 Pest Plant Management

Prerequisite/s:

Plant Biology I, Australian Ecosystems I, Resource Management Policy and Planning; or equivalent.

Contact:

2 hours per week or equivalent.

Objectives:

The objective of this subject is to enable students to:

  • have a knowledge of the biology and ecology of a range of pest plants;

  • understand the legislation requirements for pest plant management on private and public land in Victoria;

  • understand the principles of pest plant management including the appropriate use of biological, chemical, and mechanical control measures;

  • develop a pest plant management plan.

Content:

The economic and environmental significance of pest plants within agricultural and natural environments. Students will be required to understand the rage of management strategies that can be used in pest plant control, and will be required to prepare a pest plant management plan for a farm, private property or a protected area.

Assessment:

Assignments (including the production of a Pest Plant Management Plan) and practical work.
