Objectives: | On completion of the subject, students should have an understanding of the principles of commercial forestry; an ability to prepare budgets and undertake financial management; and understand and have skills in using forest planning techniques. | |
Content: | Commercial objective. Advanced budgeting, financial management and valuation, advanced silviculture. Long and short term planning systems. Linear programming and simulation models for forest planning. Cost-competitiveness and technological improvement. Marketing. Product mix. | |
Assessment: | A 3-hour written examination at the end of the semester and up to four practical reports each up to 1000 words. | |
