Timetable:

Semester 2

Contact:

24 hours of lectures and 36 hours of practical work over one semester

Objectives:

On completion of this subject students should: understand the role of inventories in resources planning; understand the fundamentals of remote sensing, particularly aerial photography, for interpreting, measuring, and mapping natural resources; know how to apply advanced statistical sampling theories and project management tools in the design and conduct of vegetation and wildlife inventories using ground and/or remote sensing methods; understand basic planning methods for production of timber and other resources.

Content:

Role of inventory in multiple resources planning. Theory and application of air-photo interpretation, photogrammetry and digital remote sensing for evaluating and mapping resources at local and wider levels. Vegetation and wildlife inventory methods. Design and management of inventories (multi-stage, multi-phase and variable probability) using remote sensing and ground surveys.
