Objectives: | On completion of this subject students should be able to: use standard equipment to measure tree and stand parameters; construct and evaluate volume and yield tables; develop simple models for tree and stand growth and yield; apply standard statistical techniques for sampling forest trees and stands. | |
Content: | Measurement of tree and stand parameters (diameter, basal area, height, volume, bark crown), stem geometry, stem analysis, defect in trees and logs, growth of trees and stands, site quality, stand density, sampling (random, systematic, stratified, probability proportional to size). | |
Assessment: | One 2-hour written examination at the end of the semester and practical assignments throughout the semester. | |
