Quota: This course has a quota of 16; a high level of performance in 200-level subjects is required for selection. Selection into this subject must be negotiated with the Department.

Prerequisite: Zoology 654-201, 654-202, 654-204; Botany 606-205 (Before 1995: 606-203).
Corequisite: 300-level Zoology subjects totalling at least 60 points
Contact: 80 hours practical work

Objectives:
By the end of this unit students should:
- have an appreciation of the nature and requirements of independent research in a research laboratory environment.
Content:
An original investigation of an approved topic in zoology through observation and/or experimentation and/or a critical review of published works.
Assessment:
A written report of up to 3,000 words at the end of second semester
