Review of thermodynamics, classical phase space, quantum statistics, simple exactly solvable interacting models, cluster expansions, phase transitions and critical phenomena, exact solution of Ising model, mean field approximation, scaling and universality, renormalization group, response function and fluctuations, BBGKY hierarchy, Boltzmann and Vlasov equations.
Assessment:
Problems throughout the subject, a 'take home' examination.
