Timetable: Second semester
Objectives:
On completion of this subject, students should:
- extend their background in geology and geomorphology, climatology and hydrogeology so that they can recognise and describe the consequences of humans as geological agents;
- understand the mediation of humans with their physical environment;
- understand the exploitation of resources.
Content:
Principles and techniques of surficial geology, climatology and hydrology including groundwater; palaeoclimatology; weathering processes and the formation of soils and regolith; landform evolution; relationships between climatology and hydrogeology; Case studies on the environmental effects of humans including the exploitation of resources.
Assessment:
A 2-hour end-of-semester written examination; a 2-hour practical examination or reports totalling up to 1,500 words.
