Contact: Two one hour lectures and up to ten hours of project work per week.
Timetable: Second semester.
Objectives:
At the completion of this subject, students should:
- have knowledge of the technical, cognitive, and social factors that can make interactive software effective or ineffective;
- have experience using several information exploration tools and user interface development environments;
- be aware of the range of design principles and guidelines that can assist user interface designers, and understand the limitations of such guidelines;
- understand the advantages and disadvantages of useability testing and various approaches to measuring usability.
Content:
Topics may include conceptual theories; user modelling; dialogue styles; development environments; usability measurement and testing.
Assessment:
End of semester written examination of up to three hours; individual and group project work. Weighting of the assessment components will be announced at the commencement of the subject.
