615-330 Advanced Concepts in Database and Telecommunications

Note: Students may not gain credit for 615-230 or 615-330 and either 433-351 (Database Systems) or 433-353 (Networks and Communications).

Prerequisite: 615-230 (Concepts in Database and Telecommunications)

Contact: Two one hour lectures and up to eight hours of project work per week.

At the completion of this subject, students should:

Content:

Topics may include data models, focusing on relational but including network, hierarchical, and possibly others; relational database issues (normalisation, query processing, and optimisation); object-oriented databases (design and query languages); data transmission basics; network connectivity and performance issues; TCP/IP and OSI protocols for open systems.

Assessment:

End of semester written examination of up to three hours project work. Weighting of the assessment components will be announced at the commencement of the subject.
