606-497 Botany Advanced Coursework (30 Points)

Note: Must be taken concurrently with 606-496 Botany Research Project (70 points).

Credit points: 100 in total

Coordinator: Dr A Drinnan

Prerequisite: 50 or more points of Botany at 300-level. The Head of Department may waive the prerequisites or stipulate additional points.

Objectives:

Provide students with skills in original research in plant science; develop capacity for critical thinking and evaluation of information; instil knowledge across wide areas of plant sciences; enhance communication skills.

Content:

Reading assignments, essay writing, presentation of seminars, and advanced lectures in two of the following areas: cellular and molecular biology, systematics and evolution, plant ecology and physiology, and plant pathology (minimum 30 hours).

Assessment:

A literature review not exceeding 3,500 words (40% of overall mark), and two essays or written assignments focussing on topics presented in the series of advanced lectures (up to 2,500 words each and 30% each).
