Prerequisite: First class Honours or very high H2A in third year subjects.
Objectives:
The Honours program in Medical Biology is designed to:
- enhance students' knowledge of medical biology in the areas of immunology, haematology, molecular biology, developmental biology or immunoparasitology;
- introduce students to the current literature in specialised areas;
- engage the students in their own research by participation in the activities of a research laboratory of the Hall Institute.
Content:
Subject 597-497 comprises:
- The Department of Medical Biology Postgraduate Student Lecture Series;
- Unit and specialist lectures;
- Unit/laboratory journal clubs; .
- An essay of between 1000-2,000 words on a topic related to the Postgraduate Student Lecture Series.
Assessment:
Hurdle Requirements
- Attendance at Postgraduate Student Lectures and the formal weekly Institute Seminar
- Attendance at Unit/Laboratory meetings
- Presentation to Unit/Laboratory part way through the year
Assessed Items
- The 1000-2000 word essay (20% of total Honours mark)
To successfully complete the Honours program in Medical Biology, students must obtain passes of between 65% or better in both 597-496 and 597-497.
