Timetable: Double semester.
Objectives:
Psychology 1 will provide students with opportunities to:
- become acquainted with several of the broad areas and varied approaches that comprise the field of Psychology;
- acquire an understanding of psychological concepts from several areas of psychology;
- acquire skills in the use and evaluation of scientific methodology and inquiry, including research design and data analysis;
- acquire skills in the critical evaluation of psychological literature;
- acquire skills in report writing as it applies to the study of psychology.
Content:
An introduction to psychology including biological bases of behaviour, social psychology, quantitative methods, human development, learning, memory and thinking, personality and adaptation, and abnormal psychology.
Assessment:
Up to four hours of examinations and five hours of research participation. Laboratory logbook, worksheets and/or reports may also be required.
