740-407 Conducting for Schools

Elective Music subject.

Credit points: 10.0

Prerequisite: 740-342 Orchestration and Arrangement 1.

Contact: 13 two-hour classes during the year

Objectives:

By the end of semester, students will be able to rehearse and conduct a short piece of school-age difficulty and will be familiar with the basic problems of vocal and instrumental ensembles in the school setting.

Content:

Basic conducting skills, with emphasis on school-age ensembles. Baton techniques, rehearsal methods, score reading (all clefs), and preparation. Rehearsal of relevant repertoire material.

Assessment:

Regular seminar projects (50 per cent); Practical conducting examination (50 per cent).
