740-393 Approaches To Pedagogy

Elective Music subject.

Prerequisite: 740-136 Practical Study 1.

Contact: A 2-hour seminar per week.

Timetable: First semester

Objectives:

On completion of this subject students should be able to plan instrumental lessons, assess teaching materials, and discuss the principal approaches to studio teaching.

Content:

Introduction to studio teaching: teaching principles and strategies, lesson planning, various philosophies and methods of instrumental teaching (Suzuki, Yamaha, Orff, Kodaly, Alexander), teaching materials. -

Assessment:

Workbook (40 per cent); class participation (40 per cent); viva voce examination (20 per cent).
