Contact: A 1-hour lecture and a 1-hour tutorial for one semester.
Objectives:
On completion of this subject, students should be able to analyse short pieces using the principal methods of analysis, including linear analysis, and will have formed a critical perspective for the variety of analytical techniques available.
Content:
Introduction to linear analysis of tonal music and a survey of the principal methods of analysing music.
Assessment:
Regular analysis exercises (50 per cent); end-of-semester project (50 per cent).
