740-338 Trends in Applied Music

Elective Music subject.

Credit points: 10.0

Prerequisite: Permission of coordinator

Contact: 13 two-hour classes during the year.

Objectives:

By the end of the year, students will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the major curricula trends in music education in the 20th century

Content:

The teaching philosophies of Orff, Kodaly, Jacques Dalcroze, Paynter and Schafer in relation to contemporary practice in classroom and instrumental teaching.

Assessment:

Three written assignments (75 per cent); participation in and contribution to the class (25 per cent).
