Contact: A 1 hour lecture and a 1 hour tutorial per week and (for non keyboard players) a one hour keyboard class per week.
Timetable: Double semester.
Objectives:
- to facilitate inner hearing via rhythmic and melodic sightreading exercises from both the textbooks and a broad cross-section of the music repertoire.
- to develop basic keyboard skills.
Content:
- Singing, playing and transcription of complex melodies, rhythms and harmonic progressions.
- Basic keyboard exercises, pieces and transpositions for students not enrolled in a keyboard instrument in Practical Study 1.
Assessment:
Weekly exercises and tests (50 per cent); end-of-year Viva voce (50 per cent).
