Elective Music subject.

Contact: Approximately 50 hours of lectures, tutorials and seminars in third year.
Objectives:
On completion of this subject students should have an awareness of ways in which principles of psychology have been applied in classroom teaching and learning; individual differences affecting educational achievement; topics in adolescent development including cognitive, social and physical development and some behavioural disturbances of adolescents.
Content:
Topics will include basic processes of learning, cognition and motivation and the application of these in the classroom; social interaction and communication in classroom management; the assessment of learning; individual learner characteristics; child and adolescent development covering physical growth and maturation, cognitive development, social and emotional development and some behavioural disturbances of adolescents.
Assessment:
Each of the above topics will be independently assessed. The assessment may comprise an essay of about 2,500 words, or a written assignment, or an examination, or an examination and an assignment.
