510-302 Introduction To Clinical Medicine

Year 3 Medicine.

Contact: A 1-hour seminar/demonstration and a 1-hour bedside tutorial a week for the first eight weeks.

Timetable: Second semester.

Objectives:

On completion of this subject, students should: have developed a basic understanding of and familiarity with the techniques of communication, history taking and physical examination; understand the basis of symptoms and signs produced by disease in terms of pathological, radiological, biochemical and microbiological changes.

Content:

Introductory course in communication, history taking and physical examination; integration of pathology and clinical medicine.

Assessment:

Continuous assessment. Attendance at all classes is compulsory. Students who receive unsatisfactory attendance/assessment reports may be considered for unsatisfactory progress at the end of the year and may be required to successfully complete additional work before being permitted to proceed to fourth year.
