Objectives:
Students who complete this subject will understand the legal schemes for protection of the general environment from particular sources, including the discharge of waste and noise to the environment, and the avenues of environmental inquiry employed in public regulation.
Content:
Introduction: Rationale, History and International Concern. International Obligations and Commitments 1. International Obligations and Commitments 2. The General Law Framework 1. The General Law Framework 2. Overview of Planning. Environmental Impact Assessment 1. Environmental Impact Assessment 2. Environmental Discharge Regulation - Agencies, Prescribed Premises, State Environment Protection Policies, Offences and Powers. Environmental Discharge Licensing. Environmental Appeals and Judicial Review. Problems in Public Regulation. Transport Planning as an Integrated Problem. Conclusion.
Assessment:
Class presentation worth (10 per cent) and Research Essay 5,000 words (90 per cent).
