451-305 Introduction To Geographic Information Systems

Prerequisite: 451-200 Geomatics Science 2, 618-200 Mathematics 2 or an equivalent subject

At the conclusion of this subject the student should:

Content:

The Information Society. Information management; the relationship of land and geographic information systems to land administration; the design and application of land and geographic information systems. The technology associated with digital mapping and land and geographic information systems. Data structures; data models. Spatial referencing.

Assessment:

Not more than two-hours of written examinations and tests, one essay of not more than 2,000 words, and not more than the equivalent of 20 pages of written assignments and reports on practical work. The relative weighting of the assessment components will be published at the commencement of the subject.
