Objectives:
At the conclusion of this subject the student should:
- be able to competently carry out a literature search
- understand the requirements of effective writing
- be able to use the skills acquired in the completion of a written and a verbal presentation of a technical report
Content:
Requirements and purposes of technical reports. An introduction to the literature in surveying; literature searches. Requirements of effective writing: structure, style, vocabulary. Citations and references. The use of graphics. Editing a report. Verbal presentations.
Assessment:
Assessment based on not more than three-1000 word essays or equivalent assignments, one seminar presentation (equivalent to 1,000 words) and tutorial work performed during the course (equivalent to 20 pages). The relative weighting of the assessment components will be published at the commencement of the subject.
