Objectives:
Upon completion, students should: develop an appreciation of role of technology in society, the responsibilities of engineers with respect to their fellow workers, society and the environment.
Content:
Technology. Historical, sociological and other factors in invention and innovation. Patenting. Technology forecasting. Statutory requirements and legal responsibilities. New technology and the environment, the workforce and human relations.
Assessment:
A two-hour examination paper; assignments to a maximum of 5,000 words, or equivalent.
