Objectives:
On completion students should:
- understand the functional units in manufacturing firms, the design and characteristics of productive systems and the product life cycle, economic analysis of production and modern manufacturing strategies
- be able to analyse and design production and assembly flow lines for discrete part manufacture
- be able to apply network analysis to project management
Content:
Functional units of manufacturing firms, classification and characteristics of productive systems, product life cycle. Economic analysis of production. Analyses of automated flow lines, assembly line balancing and design. Network analysis for project management.
Assessment:
A two-hour examination at the end of semester, a tutorial problem sheet, assignments of up to 15 pages each.
