Timetable: First semester
Objectives:
Upon completion students will have developed an elementary understanding of the nature and behaviour of engineering materials, during their processing and in-service use.
Content:
Engineering materials and their properties: elasticity, yield strength, hardness, ductility; fast fracture, toughness and fatigue; creep deformation and fracture; oxidation and corrosion; friction, abrasion and wear.
Assessment:
Practical work and problem sheets not exceeding 20 pages; a two-hour examination.
