Objectives:
Students completing this subject should:
- have developed skills in performing circuit analysis on simple linear electrical networks
- understand elementary physical electronics
- have gained an appreciation of the importance of a systems approach to electrical engineering
Content:
Electrical Networks: Linear d. c. networks, Kirchoff's laws, Thevenin and Norton equivalents, superposition, simple non-linear elements, 1st order transient, a. c. sinusoidal steady state networks, phasor diagrams, transformers. Electronics: Elementary physical electronics, diode circuit-analysis, switches and amplifiers, operational amplifiers, feedback.
Assessment:
a two-hour examination (85%) and up to 20 pages of laboratory reports (15%).
