421-454 Structural Engineering A (Combined Course)

Credit points: 9.00

Contact: 30 hours of lectures, 15 practice classes and 6 hours of practical work

Timetable: First semester

Objectives:

At the conclusion of this course students should be able to analyse for the internal actions produced in determinate and indeterminate truss and frame structures and the resultant deformations associated with a variety of loading states using both simple manual methods of analysis and computer modelling techniques and to be able to design simple structural elements (such as slabs, beams, columns, and connections) in reinforced and pre-stressed, in accordance using the appropriate Standard codes of practice.

Content:

Linear structural analysis. Computer applications in design. Concrete structures and concrete technology.

Assessment:

A three-hour examination; practical work.
