Objectives:
At the conclusion of this subject students will have covered the theory and practice of transportation planning. It outlines the broad principles of transportation planning and then proceeds to examine in greater depth a number of specific topics within the area, such as transport network modelling, travel behaviour modelling, travel data collection, and the planning and design of public transport systems. At the end of this course, students should have a greater awareness of the relationships between the physical and social aspects of transport systems.
Content:
Transport planning and modelling: transport network modelling, travel behaviour modelling. Travel surveys: travel survey process, sample design, questionnaire design. Public transport system design: models of public transport, performance measures for public transport.
Assessment:
The subject will be assessed on the basis of three written assignments submitted during the semester.
