421-440 Transport Engineering

Timetable: First semester

Objectives:

At the conclusion of this course students will have an appreciation of the fundamentals of transport engineering and highway engineering. The design of traffic and highway systems and the role of traffic surveys within that process. Students will understand various transport design procedures, particularly those related to the design of traffic signals and highway geometrics and pavements.

Content:

Traffic engineering: traffic signal design and traffic management. Traffic Surveys. Geometric design of roads. Road pavement design.

Assessment:

A two-hour examination or equivalent. Assignments during the course may be assessed as part of the examination.
