421-423 River and Flood Plain Management

Objectives:

At the conclusion of this subject, students should be able to: describe the nature of streamflow, fluvial processes and alluvial channel morphology; model irregular channels and flood plains and understand management issues relating to rivers and flood plains.

Content:

Nature of stream flow and fluvial processes; Hydraulics of flow in irregular channels; flood plains and estuaries; alluvial channel morphology and modelling; mixing processes for pollutants.

Assessment:

a two-hour examination.
