Objectives:
At the end of this course a student should:
- be able to recognise determinate and indeterminate structures
- understand the relevant basic properties of common structural materials
- be able to carry out basic designs for simple structures in accordance with appropriate Standards
Content:
Analysis of determinate and simple indeterminate structures. Structural properties of steel, concrete and timber. Codes of practice. Design of beams, slabs, columns, connections and trusses as applied to small buildings.
Assessment:
a two-hour examination and practical work.
