421-340 Transport Engineering

Credit points: 5.00

Contact: 15 hours of lectures and three practice classes

Timetable: Second semester

Objectives:

At the end of the course students should have an appreciation of the transport planning and analysis process and the role of traffic engineering within that process. They should understand various traffic analysis techniques which enable the description of traffic phenomena in mathematical terms.

Content:

Introduction to transport engineering; the transport planning process; the road/traffic system; elements of traffic flow; gap acceptance analysis; traffic queues; site impact assessment.

Assessment:

a two-hour examination or equivalent. Assignments during the course may be assessed as part of the examination.
