411-104 Process Engineering 1

Credit points: 7.1

Coordinator: Assoc. Prof. D. G. Wood and Ms Joan Gravina

Prerequisite: None for students gaining entry to the Engineering or Science Faculties. However, 411-102 CPA1 is recommended. This unit is also available for Community Access Programmes.

Contact: 39 hours for the semester consisting of 1 hour of lectures per week and 2 hours of assignments per week

Timetable: Second semester. Whilst this unit will normally be taken in Semester two, it may be offered in Semester one subject to demand.

Introduction to the PC; the DOS operating system; the WINDOWS operating system; the use of EXCEL for spreadsheet chemical engineering calculations; the use of CHEMCAD for process flowsheet design. Assignments will be of two hours' duration and will introduce ill-defined process engineering problems and include about 7 computer-based exercises.

Assessment:

this unit is continuously assessed via about 7 assignments each equivalent to no more than 1,000 words.
