Information Management: Supervised Professional Practice

Overview

The third year of the full time BSocSc (Info Mgt) course comprises four supervised professional practice subjects, and is known as the Co-operative Education Program. This is defined by the World Council and Assembly of Co-operative Education as "a strategy of applied learning which is a structured program, developed and supervised by an educational institution in collaboration with one or more employing organisations, in which relevant productive work is an integral part of a student's academic program and is an essential component of that final assessment".

Students are assisted by University staff in finding approved employment and are supervised in that employment by both a workplace supervisor and an academic supervisor from the University. You are required to complete a minimum of 36 weeks of professional practice to meet course requirements for both Information Management C11: Supervised Professional Practice 1 and Information Management C12: Supervised Professional Practice 2; this practice may be undertaken in more than one employment setting. Additionally, two reports based on these experiences (Information Management C13: Supervised Professional Practice Project 1 and Information Management C14: Supervised Professional Practice Project 2) are required to complete the period of supervised practice.

Students with substantial, relevant and recent work experience may apply for advanced standing (credit) for the employment component of the practice (ie Supervised Professional Practice 1 and 2).

The four supervised professional practice subjects are available only to students enrolled in the BSocSc (Info Mgt) course. Further information may be obtained from Ms Rachael Brak, Manager, Co-operative Education Program. Telephone (03) 9344 7190.
