Handbook 1996 : Faculty of Education (Parkville Campus)
Biology : Next:Botany | Prev:Australian Studies | Search | Help
Biology subjects are offered principally by the Faculty of Science through the Department of Zoology, the Department of Genetics, and the School of Botany. Human Biology and Nutrition is offered by the Department of Physiology. Teaching Method in Biology remains the responsibility of the Faculty of Education. Refer to the "Botany", "Education" and "Zoology" sections of this Handbook for further subject descriptions.
The Biology subjects listed below may be taken by any student in an Education Faculty course or stream, subject to the observance of normal prerequisites. However, the timetable and schedule should be carefully checked before enrolling. At first year, you would normally enrol in Biology 600-141 and 600-142. These subjects have no prerequisite requirement. However, a background of senior secondary school Biology, or indeed other science subjects, would be of some advantage. Biology 600-141 and 600-142 are prerequisites for all Year 2 subjects in the biological sciences.
Subject to appropriate course advice and departmental approval, you may also select subjects for which you are qualified, from the Faculty of Science section of this Handbook. Many of these subjects have quotas, and entry is based on a selection process.
