Prerequisite: 920-465 Vietnamese 4A or equivalent.
Contact: Three lectures and two tutorials each week.
Timetable: Second semester.
Objectives:
The aim will be to produce an expansion and development of language competency so that the students will have achieved an increased level of bilingual professional proficiency and a knowledge of Vietnamese culture and literature.
Content:
A further look at the structural development of Vietnamese and some research work into the fluencies of the language. Study of Vietnamese literature to 1862, particularly the folk style in demotic characters and the national written language.
Assessment:
Continuous oral, aural and written exercises (40 per cent); one 2,000 word essay in Vietnamese on cultural aspects (20 per cent); end-of-semester written exam (20 per cent); oral/aural exam (20 per cent).
