Objectives:
On completion of this subject students should be able to:
- understand the interaction between information management and the law; and
- outline the rights and responsibilities of those involved in, or affected by, the processing of information.
Content:
A study of legal concepts, legislation and case law relating to the area of information management. The subject will focus upon practical legal problems faced by those involved in information management. Topics include: discrimination, defamation, white collar crime and negligence, copyright, confidential information, freedom of information, privacy and computers and the law.
Assessment:
A 2-hour examination (70 per cent); an essay of approximately 2,000 words (30 per cent).
