Prerequisite: Textiles and Clothing C, or approved equivalent.
Contact: Six hours of lecture/studio/practical sessions and an additional four hours of timetabled studio access each week, and a total of 10 days Field Experience.
Timetable: Double semester.
Objectives:
On completion of this subject students should be able to:
- develop independence to research and explore textiles within the context of the visual arts;
- analyse, develop and express personal concepts through the textile medium;
- demonstrate competence to plan and undertake an intensive course of study at an advanced level within the area of textiles and/or clothing; and
- understand the need for healthy and safe working practices with materials and equipment within the context of studio and school environment.
Content:
Students research, develop and undertake an intensive personal program of study related to a specific area of textiles and/or clothing. Emphasis will be placed on thorough research and the development of original concepts expressed through the use of appropriate techniques demonstrated at an advanced level. Students undertake 10 days of related Field Experience.
Assessment:
A folio of five practical projects drawn from the various units of study supported by the inclusion of detailed preliminary research (75 per cent), a research project equivalent to 1,500 words (15 per cent) and two exhibition reviews equivalent to 1,000 words (10 per cent). Students must satisfactorily complete the Field Experience component.
