Note: Priority is given to BEd (Visual Arts) course students.

Prerequisite: Metal B, or approved equivalent.

Contact: A 4-hour discussion/studio session and two hours of studio access each week.

Timetable: Double semester.

Objectives:

On completion of this subject students should be able to:

Content:

Areas of investigation which will allow the development of personal concepts include: Fabrication: multi-grade soldering. Decorative techniques: chasing, repousse, engraving (associated tool making). Colour: enamel, anodising and dyeing, heat and chemicals. Movement: chenier, chains; Jewellery: stone setting, findings. Shaping: engineers lathe.

Assessment:

Two major and two minor projects drawn from the investigations listed above, including supportive material in the form of research and experimental studies undertaken in class (80 per cent); a research/studio resource book which contains evidence of design development, preliminary research for final projects, production methods, theory, exhibition reviews (20 per cent).
