Note: Priority is given to BEd (Visual Arts) course students.
Credit points: 20.0
Coordinator: Chris Palmer, Winston Thomas.
Prerequisite: Design and Graphic Communication B, or approved equivalent.
Contact: Two 2-hour lecture/tutorial/studio/workshop or field study sessions each week and an additional two hours of time-tabled studio access per week.
Timetable: Double semester.
Objectives:
On completion of the subject the student should be abe to:
- understand the necessity, function and the consequences of design by examining the responsibility of design decision-makers in the past, at present and in future societies;
- use computers as an aid to the realisation of design concepts; and
- develop and apply skills in 2D and 3D design and graphic communication to program development and evaluation at the situational level.
Content:
History and Philosophical Aspects; Computer Graphics; Design Workshops and Projects: further development of design concepts and skills relevant to graphic, product or environmental design.
Assessment:
A 1500-word essay in the first major area of study-Historical and Philosophical Aspects (20 per cent); design projects of equal weighting including a design resource book (80 per cent).
