Coordinator: Werner Hammerstingl, Stephen Spurrier, Claire Day.
Prerequisite: Painting and Printmaking B, or Photography B or approved equivalent.
Contact: Two 2-hour discussion/studio sessions and and additional two hours of timetabled studio access each week.
Timetable: Double semester.
Objectives:
On completion of this subject students should be able to:
- demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of issues relating to the appreciation and production of two-dimensional art;
- demonstrate an understanding of the interrelationship of two-dimensional art disciplines;
- demonstrate a development of skills in the two-dimensional art media;
- adopt an informed and articulate position in relation to their practice; and
- demonstrate skill acquisition, design application and personal expression in their own folio.
Content:
Further exercises in both figurative and non-figurative modes. The development of a means of personal expression through a program of study that decreases in prescription throughout the year. Students will be required to keep a visual and written journal which includes technical notes, primary and secondary source material, notes related to their folio presentations, and critiques of current exhibitions in commercial, public, and alternative exhibition spaces.
Assessment:
A folio of works which reflects participation in all aspects of the program will be progressively assessed (80 per cent); and a written and visual journal (20 per cent).
