Prerequisite: Teaching Method Junior Science 1C and at least 40.0 points in Biology at group 2 level or approved equivalent OR (ii) at least 33.3 points in Biology subjects at Group 2 and Group 3 level, with a pass or concurrent enrolment in Environmental Science C subjects (All year. )
Pre/Corequisite: (For each Teaching Method D) Satisfactory completion of Education Studies C, School Experience C and a minimum of 250 points credit in the course. Concurrent enrolment in Education Studies D and School Experience D12.
Contact: 30 hours of workshop sessions.
Objectives:
On completion of this subject students should be able to:
- develop sets of aims and objectives appropriate to senior secondary school biology classes;
- design classroom and field activities which will facilitate achievement of those objectives by students;
- manage class activities in such ways that desired student learnings take place; and
- design and evaluate activities which will measure student achievement of the biology teaching objectives.
Content:
Biology teaching and associated educational issues and concerns. Aims and content of VCE Biology, biology teaching materials and resources, biology class management, evaluation of student performance, teacher self-evaluation and development.
Assessment:
Assignments totalling 2,000 words on theoretical and practical aspects of biology teaching (100 per cent). Satisfactory participation in the class program.
