Prerequisite: Health and Environmental Studies B or approved equivalent.
Contact: Two 1-hour lectures and one 3-hour practical session each week, including laboratories, gymnasium activites, outdoor settings, or other equivalent activities, e. g. excursions, resource centre visits.
Timetable: Double semester.
Objectives:
On completion of this subject students should be able to:
- undertake an independent research investigation in health and environmental studies;
- understand the development of health and environmental agencies and their delivery at a local, national and global level;
- understand the development of technological devices and processes and their impact on health and the environment; and
- evaluate current health and environmental issues in the context of a multicultural Australia.
Content:
A study of a range of relevant topics which may include the following: health and environmental agencies and their delivery of services; analysis of current health and environmental issues such as AIDS, global warming, children's sport and biodiversity; a study of technology relevant to health and the environment.
Assessment:
One major essay or assignment or research investigation of 4,000 words (45 per cent); two essays or assignments of 1,500 words each (25 per cent); two 1-hour tests (20 per cent) and several short tests totalling two hours (10 per cent).
