Pre/Corequisite: Foundation Studies in Science and Technology; completion of, or concurrent enrolment in School Studies C1 or C10, or approved equivalent studies.
Contact: The major part of this subject will be carried out under contract in a primary school at times to be negotiated by the student. Group meetings will be held as required.
Timetable: First or second semester.
Objectives:
On completion of this subject students should be able to:
- plan and teach a unit of work in science appropriate to primary school children;
- demonstrate a detailed knowledge of sources of teaching materials and apparatus appropriate to primary school level; and
- evaluate the success of their science teaching in terms of student outcomes.
Content:
The design, implementation, and evaluation of a science unit extending over at least five weeks in a primary school.
Assessment:
Planning and implementation of the science unit over five weeks in a primary school class (40 per cent); presentation of the final evaluative report (60 per cent).
