Objectives:
On completion of this subject students should be able to:
- recognise the challenge and potential for using images in geography teaching;
- make maximum use of the local environment for the teaching of important ideas in geography;
- identify suitable strategies and resources for local community studies; and
- recognise the differences between knowledge, perception and stereotyping of, and attitudes towards, place.
Content:
A study of people and place and a consideration of the implications for teaching geography. Topics selected from: the challenge and potential for using images in geography teaching; the local community as a teaching resource; knowledge, perception and stereotyping of, and attitudes towards, place; the atlas and place awareness.
Assessment:
One written assignment of approximately 2,500 words.
