Contact: Two 1-hour lectures and a 1-hour tutorial/practical class each week.
Timetable: First semester.
Objectives:
On completion of the subject the student should be abe to:
- employ the principles of artificial intelligence; and
- design and implement software systems using the PROLOG programming language.
Content:
Topics include: the history and applications of artificial intelligence; the nature of intelligence; problem-solving; the codification of logic; knowledge based systems; knowledge representation; natural language processing; robotics including speech recognition and visual recognition; neural networks; genetic algorithms.
Assessment:
A 2-hour examination (50 per cent); tutorial sheets and programming assignments (50 per cent).
