Note: This subject can be taken as a Link Study, usually in Year 4.

Prerequisite: Science Education C4: The Research Basis (485-332)
Contact: Two 2-hour workshops each week for half a semester.
Timetable: Second semester.
Objectives:
On completion of this subject students should be able to:
- understand a range of contemporary issues in the sciences; and
- devise ways of communicating them to others, particularly in secondary schools.
Content:
A range of contemporary ideas and issues in the sciences and science-related areas will be studied, together with skills in communicating such ideas, especially in secondary schools. Students will complete one module, chosen from a range such as industrial chemistry, national environmental issues, physical concepts, human manipulation of biological resources, computer applications and simulations.
Assessment:
One assignment of approximately 2,000 words (100 per cent) or two assignments of approximately 1,000 words each (50 per cent each).
