Prerequisite: Foundation Studies in Mathematics and School Studies B55, or equivalent.
Contact: A 90-minute seminar/workshop each week.
Timetable: First or second semester.
Objectives:
On completion of this subject students should be able to:
- demonstrate a knowledge of current educational practices; and
- demonstrate organisational and planning skills that will enable them to operate effective primary mathematics programs.
Content:
This subject will involve students in examining current mathematics teaching and learning practices in primary schools. Students will consider issues related to operating effective mathematics programs, including: planning, organisation, implementation and evaluation.
Assessment:
Two major projects totalling 3,000 words: (1) Teaching Methods Research assignment (60 per cent); and (2) Unit Planning assignment (40 per cent).
