Prerequisite: Outdoor Education B1 and B2, or approved equivalent.
Contact: 72 hours of practical supervised Field Experience and six 2-hour tutorials over 12 days.
Timetable: Double semester.
Objectives:
On completion of this subject students should be able to:
- understand and apply principles of leadership, risk and challenge in the outdoors;
- understand and assist in pre-trip planning and preparation and the review process; and
- identify learning difficulties in the area of skill acquisition and provide appropriate correction strategies.
Content:
A study of the application of leadership principles, risk management, safety and legal liability in the outdoor setting.
Assessment:
Written practicum preparation (40 per cent); participation and attendance (60 per cent). Total written work up to 2,500 words.
